Becca's New Facebook Page with Some FUN Updates!

Last week Becca launched her brand new Facebook Page!! This page is/will be her official presence on Facebook. I believe that she will be closing (or making private) her old page - so if you want to follow her, this is the page to 'LIKE'.

And as a reward for liking her new page you may just find some little writing teasers like these that she posted recently as she is writing Book 3. Of course these lines may never make it into the book. But we will love them just the same!!! <3

Teaser from today's writing adventures: After Patch left, I decided it was time to stop playing princess and change back into my ordinary clothes. (Wednesday)

Writing a scene with Nora and Scott: “Scott!” I hissed, cupping my mouth. “We have a problem.” (Dec 6)

We are looking forward to many more goodies to come!!

Looking for a great book to read? Join us in our read along of BEFORE I FALL

We're hoping that like us you've been fortunate enough to have already discovered Lauren Oliver's incredible book, BEFORE I FALL. (This is our 2nd read! I just ordered 2 as Christmas gifts. Can you tell how much we love it?) But whether you're already a fan or just looking for a great book to read we invite you to join us as we read it over the next few days. All you need is a copy of the book and to sign up on our forum so you can access the boards and chat with other readers. Click here for details. Chapter 1/Day 1 and 2 are posted but it's not too late to join in. Hope to see you there!

What if you only had one day to live? What would you do? Who would you kiss? And how far would you go to save your own life?

Samantha Kingston has it all: the world’s most crush-worthy boyfriend, three amazing best friends, and first pick of everything at Thomas Jefferson High—from the best table in the cafeteria to the choicest parking spot. Friday, February 12, should be just another day in her charmed life.

Instead, it turns out to be her last. Then she gets a second chance. Seven chances, in fact. Reliving her last day during one miraculous week, she will untangle the mystery surrounding her death—and discover the true value of everything she is in danger of losing.

Lauren Oliver's Butterfly Effect

We may only live 2 hours away from NYC but since it's a small town area we don't get too many author visits, so when we heard that NYT Best Selling author, Lauren Oliver, would be visiting Scranton we were beyond excited. BEFORE I FALL is a spectacular book. A painful, hopeful, moving, brilliant story that carries a powerful message that will haunt (in a good way) teenangers, parents and anyone who's been a young adult long after you've finished. We're not exaggerating when we say that reading a story like this changes you.

What if you had only one day to live? What would you do? Who would you kiss? And how far would you go to save your own life?

Samantha Kingston has it all: the world's most crush-worthy boyfriend, three amazing best friends, and first pick of everything at Thomas Jefferson High—from the best table in the cafeteria to the choicest parking spot.

Just as powerful as the messsage of BEFORE I FALL is what brought Lauren Oliver to our area. Over the summer, Delaney Sandercock, a teen from Dalton, PA passed away in a boating accident. Thanks to Delaney's love of reading and the fact that she had BEFORE I FALL on hold with her local library Lauren became aware of the tragedy. And like the Butterfly effect that inspired Lauren when she wrote BIF, Delaney's death brought about a chain of events that would lead to Lauren not only donating to Delaney's memorial fund to renovate the children's room at the Dalton Community Library, but speaking in the county's lecture series and local high schools. You can read more about that story here and see the local news story here.

Library Director: Shu Qiu; Jenn (FallenArchangel),
Lauren Oliver, Rebccea (FallenArchangel)
As soon as we heard Lauren would be speaking here we contacted her about meeting for an interview and working with us at Fallenarchangel on our read-along of BEFORE I FALL this month, with a live chat at the end of the two weeks. Because as anyone knows who has read it, you will have lots of questions! We got the chance to meet Lauren before the dedication. She's a blast, so at ease, down to earth, kind, and excited to chat about her writing and the reason for her visit. We're thrilled to partner with Lauren as we re-read BIF and hope that you'll join us. More details and dates here on FallenArchangel.

There's also one other small detail (total sarcasm when we say small) we should mention. Lauren's next book, DELIRIUM, comes out in Februrary 2011. We were fortuate enough to read an electronic ARC (advanced reader copy) from http://www.netgalley.com/ and were completely blown away. DELIRUM is AMAZING! If for some reason you hadn't heard of Lauren Oliver before now you will when February rolls around because D is the start of what's sure to be one of the biggest trilogies in the YA world next year.

Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn't understand that once love--the deliria--blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold.

Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the government demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Haloway has always looked forward to the day when she'll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.

But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: she falls in love.

And so have we--with the story and now the official cover. WOW.

Thank you Lauren for taking the time to meet with us, sign our books and agreeing to be a part of our read-along and, of course, the cover jacket. (We're still staring at it today) We're so excited to feature these amazing books discuss them with all of you!

Celebrate Halloween with a little Beautiful Darkness

*This contest is officially closed. Thank you to all who entered and commented!*

We may not have any tricks for you here at Fallenarchangel,
but we definitely have a treat. All weekend long we’re celebrating another
one of our favorite series of books in honor of the release of
BEAUTIFUL DARKNESS by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl,
the second installment in The Caster Chronicles.

Forget the candy we’ve got swag and a signed book and swag to giveaway! And for a
treat you can enjoy right now, visit Little, Brown’s Beautiful Creatures website:
www.somelovesarecursed.com for excerpts, downloadables,
a map of Gatlin more! You can keep up with authors,
Kami and Margaret and the Caster World at
Authors Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Rebecca, one of the co-owners/admins of Fallenarchangel, meeting the authors at the Little Brown booth at the ALA Conference last summer in Washington DC. They're just as fabulous in person!

If you haven’t read BEAUTIFUL CREATURES yet, you must. But with reviews like this,
you don’t have to take our word for it.
“A hauntingly delicious dark fantasy, a cast of fascinating characters,
a rich gothic setting---this debut novel is one to watch.”
-Cassandra Clare, NYT bestselling author of City of Bones

“This book has it all: a creepy setting, a deadly curse, reincarnation, spells, witchcraft and voodoo, plus characters that simply will not let the reader put the book
down until finished…Who could ask for more? A sequel? Please!”
-VOYA

And the sequel, BEAUTIFUL DARKNESS, is just as entrancing!

Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.

Sometimes life-ending.

Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South,
where nothing is as it seems.

We could gush about all the reasons (there are too many to even list) you need to read BEAUTIFUL DARKNESS, but in honor of Halloween we thought it would be fun to give you the author approved scoop on the supernatural side of the Caster world!

*** SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVEN’T READ BEAUTIFUL CREATURES ***

Caster
With a series entitled The Caster Chronicles, you know Casters play a major role. But what is a Caster you ask? Just think of Casting a spell and you’ve got the idea. Beyond the basics like moving objects with a mere thought, each individual Caster is born with their own range of abilities.

Caster Gifts
Even in a family of Casters, each one has their unique gift that allows them to perform a range of abilities. Here are a few examples.

Natural – Has a lot more abilities than other Casters.
Cataclyst – A Natural gone Dark
Palimpsest – Reads time. They can walk into a room and see it at different points in the past and present, all at once. Because of this they’re often confused about exactly when or where they are.
Siren – Posses the Power of persuasion. They can put any idea in your head and get you to say or do anything they want.
Sybil – Reads faces. They can see what you’ve seen, just by looking into your eyes. They give the saying “Read you like a book,” a whole new meaning.
Illusionist – Creates illusions. They can make anything look like anything they want, for a spell—people, things, places—but they aren’t real.
Shifter – Identical to an Illusionist, but can actually change objects permanently.
Evo – Incredibly powerful; they can influence people, but they can also Evolve, morph into other people.

Seer
A Seer is someone who can see the future. And in our opinion a very handy person to have around, though I don’t think Ethan would always agree!

Incubus
Not be mistaken with a vampire, as one of our favorite characters tells us in BC. An Incubus requires some sort of feeding to maintain their powers and strength. And not all of them are bad. One of our favorite characters is one!

Succubus
An Incubus in the female form. “The praying mantis of the supernatural world.”

The Greats
Ancestors who are called upon in sprit form for guidance or protection. They’re often given offerings of food or drink in exchange for their help.

Sheer
A Sheer is a soul who hasn’t been able to cross over to the Otherworld because they have unfinished business in the Caster or Mortal world. They typically keep to themselves.

There's even more to fear in the Caster World than what we've mentioned above, but you'll have to read the books and find out for yourself. Let's just say we'd have trouble sleeping at night if we lived in Gaitlin...

****************

And to help celebrate this Halloween celebration all things Caster,
we have a chance for 2 lucky readers, one will win a signed copy
of BEAUTIFUL DARKNESS along with some swag while the
second winner will receive just the fabulous swag
(a BIG thank you to Kami and Margaret for providing this)!

All you need to do is follow our blog and use the entry form below
to submit your contact information. For an extra submission you can
leave a comment on this post telling us what kind of supernatural
being fascinates you most and why. Vampires, ghosts, zombies,
werewolves, fortune tellers, wizards; anything goes! Or if you;ve
read BEAUTIFUL CREATURES or BEAUTIFUL DARKNESS
you can tell us why you love the series. Please keep it spoiler free!

**One entry per person - Open Internationally - Contest ends at midnight on Sun. October 31**

Good Luck! We look forward to reading your comments.

A Soul Laid Bare - part 2 - Bree Despain

Tonya blinked. Her eyes had only been closed for a fraction of a second—only a single heartbeat—but when she opened them, the man loomed right in front of her. Only a few inches away.

Tonya jumped back in shock and hit the library cart behind her. Books spilled out onto the ground. She grabbed the edge of the cart to steady herself. She tried to shout, but her throat felt like it was closing in on itself.

She was trapped between the cart and this man.
He glared at her—his eyes black as two obsidian stones. “You have something I need.” His voice echoed in Tonya’s ears as he reached his large hand out toward her. “I need your help…”

***
“Sami?” a deep voice asked.

“Wha…?” Sami sat up with a start. She knocked a book off the desk in front of her. Wait, what desk? “Where am I?”

“Um . . . the library,” that deep voice said.

“Library?”

Sami looked at the guy standing beside her. His white oxford shirt-sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, exposing his mocha colored forearms. He smiled. Dylan Harris, Sami realized. She’d spent too many hours staring at that perfect smile from across the lunchroom to not recognize it—even if her brain was still in a fog.

“Pretty intense nap, huh?” Dylan made a wiping motion next to his mouth. “Might want to…um…”

Heat rushed into Sami’s cheeks. She wiped the corner of her mouth. Of course she’d been drooling in her sleep in front of Dylan.

But the thing is, Sami could have sworn she hadn’t been asleep. One second she’d been watching TV after school…at home…and the next she was here.

“Sorry to bug you, but the library is closing. Didn’t want you waking up here all alone.”

Alone.

Sami suddenly remembered her dream: The young librarian with the books. The man at the desk. His black, black eyes. The two of them in the library—alone. Only it hadn’t felt like a dream at all. It was like Sami had actually been living a day in the woman’s life…Tonya, yes, that had been her name. Sami could even feel the tender spot on her skin where she’d spilled hot coffee on herself in the dream.

This wasn’t the first time in the last week Sami had dreamed—experienced—the same scenario. Only this time she’d woken in the library where the dream had taken place.

“Interesting reading.” Dylan scooped up the book Sami had knocked from the table. “Colonial Witchcraft?”

“I don’t remember picking that out.” But she had seen it before. It was one of the books the woman in her dream had been carrying from her car. “I need to go.”

“I’ll walk you out,” Dylan said. “Do you need a ride home?”

Normally, Sami would have freaked out about Dylan Harris asking to drive her home, but the fact that she had no idea whether she’d driven here herself was freaking her out even more.

Most of the library lights had already been turned out, and it was even darker beyond the windows. Sami stopped short next to a small display filled with flowers surrounding the picture of a woman—who seemed hauntingly familiar.

“I heard it’s the ten year anniversary of her death,” Dylan said. “Strange how they never figured out how she died.”

Sami swallowed hard. She looked at the nameplate on the framed picture of the woman. Librarian, Tonya Sellers.

“I think I may know,” Sami said before she could stop herself. _______________________________________________

Love a book? Don't be shy. Spread the word!

Do you look at book ratings before you buy a book? Do you read reviews? We do! And with the release of Crescendo this week we've been paying extra attention to things like ratings and reviews. (YAY so was thrilled to see Crescendo already has 4.46 out of 5 stars on Goodreads! You guys rock!)

So we thought we'd remind everyone how important it is to take a few seconds to give positive ratings/reviews for books you love like Crescendo on sites like Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes and Noble and Borders. It's a great way to support authors and books you love and just might get someone to give your favorite book a try. The better the reviews, the higher the sales, the more books we get to read by those authors. Go spread the love!

We hope all of you who were lucky enough to got your hands on Crescendo this week are enjoying it! Don't forget to stop by Twitter, Facebook or the forum and let us know what you think. We love hearing from you, just be sure to keep it all spoiler free. We're working on a chat so all of us who have read it can gush over all the juicy details. ; ) Thanks!

A Few Things to Look Forward to in CRESCENDO & win a HUSH HUSH Paperback

Hey everyone!! With less than 48 hours until Crescendo is officially released in the US, the excitement is definitely building! To help hold you over for the last stretch, here are just a few things you can look forward to reading about in Crescendo. Spoiler-free, of course!! ;o)

• Vee Sky- Nora’s best friend is back, and she’s just as boy-crazy as she was in Hush, Hush! Her new leading man might be a surprise, but it’s pretty exciting, too!

• What really happened the night Nora’s dad was murdered? You’ll get to find out soon!! You may think you’ve already got it figured out, but you may be in for a surprise you weren’t expecting.

• Detective Basso- Were you left a little unsure about Det. Basso was a good guy or not in Hush, Hush? I know I was! He left me feeling like there was more to him than met the eye. Well, he’s back for more in Crescendo, which may help make up your mind!

• Rixon- I loved the playful scenes between Patch and his best friend and fellow fallen angel in Hush, Hush, so I was happy he returned for Crescendo! Hopefully you will be, too!

• Marcie Millar- As the Week #3 Cookie of the Week revealed- there’s a catfight that occurs between Marcie and Nora. I have to say, that’s probably one of my favorite scenes in the book! And with Marcie around, you never know what’s going to happen!

• Patch- DUH!! In Crescendo, you get to find out a lot more about Patch, including his real name and where he lives!

There are so many more things that I could add to this list, but I don’t want to give too much away! You’ll just have to make sure you pick up a copy of Crescendo on Tuesday, October 19!

To help celebrate Crescendo’s release, we will be giving away paperback copies of Hush, Hush courtesy of Simon & Schuster. This contest is only open to US residents. To enter, leave a comment below telling us what you’re looking forward to the most about Crescendo. Be sure to include your email address or a way for us to contact you. Contest ends Tuesday, October 19 at midnight.

A Favor About Spoilers

Hey guys!! As the release dates for CRESCENDO are upon us and more and more people have and will be reading CRESCENDO let's remember.....

Becca is a master of twists and turns and her books are fabulous at keeping us on the edge of our seats, let's not ruin that for those who haven't read it yet! We ask you this.... please don't give tooo much away on the internet. And maybe you can help encourage others to do the same.

If everyone knew how hard Becca (and all authors) works on her books they would understand why it's so important to help keep the big surprises quiet. We ask that you help keep the secrets, at least for a while Thanks!!

Things That Make us Happy Today!!

We, Jenn & Rebecca, (and Becca too) are in love with the VAMPIRE DIARIES tv show!! Those of you who follow us on Twitter know just how much we <3 it! (lol sorry for filling your feeds every Thursday night).

Today the soundtrack of songs from Season 1 (last year) and Season 2 (this year) hits stores!! We just finished downloading it and are listening to it right now!! If you are going to buy it from Amazon, we'd really appreciate you buying through our affiliate link (all earnings help us run FallenArchangel).

There won't be a new episode this Thursday, but we figure the soundtrack sort of makes up for that ;-)

Also, today BEAUTIFUL DARKNESS by Kami Garcia & Magaret Stohl hits stores!! We have had the pleasure of reading an Advance Copy and highly recommend this series! (Beautiful Darkness is Book 2 in the Beautiful Creatures Series) Not only are the books great, but the authors are pretty awesome, too! We'll be running a feature on these books later this month!!

Of course we must mention how excited we are that the countdown is almost complete for CRESCENDO's big release!! It hits stores in the UK on Thursday and here in the US next Tuesday!!! (eeeek one more week!) Some people have been reporting early sightings in their local bookstores, so keep your eyes open! And once you do find/get CRESCENDO, if you send us a picture of you and it, we just might post it on FallenArchangel! You can email it to us at admin@fallenarchangel.com

Anything else making this a good Tuesday for you??? Tell us all about it in the comments!!

October's Featured Fiction-- STEAMPUNK!

This month's Featured Fiction is all about Steampunk! If you aren't familiar with exactly what that is here's what Wikipedia has to say about Steampunk:

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s.[1] Specifically, steampunk involves an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century and often Victorian era Britain—that incorporates prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of steampunk often feature anachronistic technology or futuristic innovations as Victorians may have envisioned them; in other words, based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, art, etc. This technology may include such fictional machines as those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne or real technologies like the computer but developed earlier in an alternate history.

How stinkin cool does that sound? And the three books we're featuring are killer examples of the aweomeness that is Steampunk. Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan series (LEVIATHAN and the new out this week, BEHEMOTH) and Richard Harland's WORLDSHAKER. Please visit our Featured Fiction page on our home site, Fallenarchangel, for book trailers and more.

Thanks to the amazing team at Simon & Schuster we've got 5 copies of each of these amazing titles to give away! So be on the lookout for the remainder of the month of October for your chance to get your very own copy.

Books You Can't Miss: Personal Demons by Lisa Desrochers

There's nothing quite as fun as spreading the word on an awesome book. So when I finished my advanced copy of PERSONAL DEMONS by Lisa Desrochers I knew we had to make sure you all knew how fantastic this story is. It's a sexy, super hot read packed full of suspense and surprises. And I know all of you fellow Patch fans will appreciate that fact that there's an angel involved. ; ) Hello, Gabe! There's also Luc whose as opposite an angel as you can get. *wink wink* See, I told you this book was a must read.

If you had to choose between Heaven and Hell, which would it be?

Are you sure about that...?

Frannie Cavanaugh is a good Catholic girl with a wicked streak. She's spent years keeping everyone at a distance--even her closest friends--and it seems her senior year will be more of the same...until Luc Cain enrolls in her class. No one knows where he came from, but Frannie can't seem to stay away from him. What she doesn't know is that Luc works in Acquisitions--for Hell--and she possesses a unique skill set that has the king of Hell tingling with anticipation. All Luc has to do is get her to sin, and he's as tempting as they come. Frannie doesn't stand a chance.

Unfortunately for Luc, Heaven has other plans, and the angel, Gabe, is going to do whatever it takes to make sure that Luc doesn't get what he came for. And it isn't long before they find themselves fighting for more than just her soul.

But if Luc fails, there will be Hell to pay...for all of them.

And I have two great pieces of news...

1. PERSONAL DEMON'S releases this week--tomorrow in fact! In stores now just waiting for you to take it home.
2. We have a super fun interview with the characters brought to you by the author herself!
*And stay tuned because we just might have a giveaway later this week...

So here's a little taste of the wicked fun you'll find. Thanks Lisa!

Take it away Frannie...
My name is Frannie Cavanaugh and I’m a senior at Hades—I mean Haden High. Mr. Snyder assigned an interview for English class. He said we could interview anyone, real or fictional. I’m interviewing Luc and Gabe and I’ll leave it up to him decide which they are, real or not.
Me: First off, how did you both know the deal with me. I didn’t even know the deal with me…

Gabe: *raises an eyebrow and quirks half a smile* Either did Mr. Arrogant. *tips his head at Luc*

Luc: *glares at Gabe* What featherface means to say is that we have our ways.

Gabe: *leans back in chair* And my ways are far superior to his ways. *smirks*

Luc: *red lightning crackles over knuckles*

Me: Okay. *panicking a little* Play nice. I was just asking. So…tell me about how you guys met.

Luc: *barks out a laugh* Go ahead, Gabriel. Fill her in.

Gabe: *shifts in chair as eyes narrow* He *juts his chin toward Luc* shows up in Pompeii after Vesuvius, thinking he’s all that. Going to collect all these souls—

Luc: *laughs again* No, idiot. The first time. *leans in and winks* You’ll have to excuse him. Brain damage from breathing all that ozone. What he meant to say was that I kicked his ass in the Coliseum.

Gabe: Stop telling her what I mean. *shakes head*

Me: Hold up! Did you say Coliseum? As in Rome?

Luc: I did. *eyes flash* *slow grin* And I also said I kicked his ass.

Gabe: *rolls eyes* In your dreams.

Luc: If memory serves me, I left the Coliseum under my own power.

Gabe: You don’t think Caesar would have thought it a bit strange that I should get up and walk out—

Luc: *grinning*—after I kicked your ass? Yeah, that might have raised suspicion.

Gabe: *glares again*

Me: Okay! Okay…I got it. So…changing the subject…what are your respective jobs in Heaven and Hell.

Luc: I work in—

Gabe: I believe she said Heaven first, dude. But I’m sure with your limited intellectual capacity, that flew right over your head.

Luc: *leans back and laces fingers behind head* I assumed it was an oversight.

Gabe: *turns his back to Luc* I’m a Protector of the Second Sphere. It’s my job to protect innocent people…*leans forward and covers my hand with his* special people…from him *jerks head toward Luc* and his kind.

Luc: …and, as I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted, I work in Acquisitions—mostly in high school. I get them going on the little ones. Starter sins, if you will. Not enough to tag their souls for Hell, but enough to send them in our direction eventually.

Me: Sounds…interesting…

Luc: *smiles wickedly* It has it’s perks.

Gabe: *rolls eyes*

Me: So, I’m still not really sure what the big deal is and why you both want to tag my soul, but what will happen if you fail?

Luc: *shifts uncomfortably in his chair* *eyes flash* I never fail.

Me: Okay, but hypothetically, if you did…

Luc: *shifts again and won’t look at me* I’d spend eternity burning in the Fiery Pit.

Me: That sounds…not good.

Gabe: *scowls at Luc* You’re a demon. How bad can it be?

Me: What about you? *turns toward Gabe* What would happen if Luc wins?

Gabe: *staring hard into my eyes* The end of the world as you know it.

Me: *clears throat and squirms a little* Oh… Is that all… *clears throat again* Okay, so…last question. Can you guys, like, read minds, and transport and stuff like that?

Gabe: One of us can read minds, *smiles smugly* and it’s not brimstone breath.

Luc: *glares at Gabe* But we both can transport. *eyes shift to me* And one of us can possess people, *grins* which, really, is much more fun than reading minds.

Me: *trying hard not to think of anything totally embarrassing* Oh…okay…well, that’s all I had, so—

Luc: *pushes back from table* *holds hand out to me* Let’s go.

Gabe: *stands* *glares at Luc* Not going to happen.

Me: *splits a glare between them* I’m not going anywhere. Gotta write this interview up for Mr. Snyder.

Luc: *grabs my wrist* *glares at Gabe* She’s coming with me.

Gabe: *grabs my other arm* Not even in your dreams.

Luc: Back off. *shoves glowing red fist in Gabe’s face*

Me: *shakes off Gabe’s hand* *grabs Luc’s arm* *throws Luc over my shoulder onto the floor* *glares down at him* Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Luc: *stands* *glares at Gabe* *storms out*

Gabe: Later. *follows Luc out*

Me: *rolls eyes* Well, that was fun.

Spoiler-Free Build Up to CRESCENDO

Recently we have found out just how much spoilers can ruin a book for someone. This past week at least one review full of spoilers was posted for MOCKINGJAY, the 3rd book in THE HUNGER GAMES Trilogy by Suzanne Collins, before the book was even released! Sadly, it has ruined the book for many.

We want to remind you as we get closer and closer to the release of CRESCENDO, that Becca has put a lot of time into writing an AWESOME book for us! Out of respect for her we encourage you to re-read this post regarding ARCs and Spoilers we posted back in July.....

Things to keep in mind if you are lucky enough to get an ARC. Remember that the official release is in October, so most people will not be reading it until then. Becca has asked that, when possible, you hold off on posting reviews until SEPTEMBER. And to please, please, please keep them Spoiler FREE. As was the case with HUSH HUSH, this book is gonna keep you turning the pages to find out what is going to happen and we really hope as many people as possible can stay spoiler free :-)
AND we encourage you, as a reader, to be careful about what you read so that you don't accidentally spoil it for yourself. Here on FallenArchangel we have received permission and worked with both Becca and Simon & Schuster to select any teaser/cookies that are posted. AND we are careful not to reveal any spoilers.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE CRESCENDO sooo much, the build up throughout the book is awesome and we'd can't wait for you all to enjoy it. :-)

Feel free to tell us your thoughts below...

PAYA: Bringing YA to PA

Today we are happy to bring you a guest blog post from Skyanne aka @Harmonybreviews. We (Rebecca and Jenn) live in PA too and have a love of YA, so we are proud to support PAYA :-)

PAYA: Bringing YA to PA is an organization dedicated to raising money for libraries across Pennsylvania. It started as me donating books to my local library and has quickly grown into something much more. Libraries across the state are now benefitting from PAYA and our various fundraisers. We've raised over a thousand dollars by doing online auctions and other fundraisers, as well as collected hundreds of books for libraries.

Our current focus, and what we've been working towards all year, is the PAYA 2010 Festival. It will take place on August 21st at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Eighteen authors will be attending, including teen authors Chelsea Swiggett and Kieryn Nicolas, along with Josh Berk, Cyn Balog, Stephanie Kuehnert, Jeri Smith-Ready, Jennifer Hubbard, Amy Brecount White, Jon Skovron, Shelena Shorts, Jennifer Murgia, Shannon Delany, Holly Nicole Hoxter, Dianne Salerni, Christine Marciniak, Andrew Aueson, Ellen Jensen Abbott, and Meg Medina. Children's Book World out of Haverford, PA will be selling books at the event. Other fundraisers, like a basket raffle featuring signed books from Meg Cabot, Megan McCafferty, Kimberly Derting, and many others, and a used book sale, will also be going on. The festival itself will run from 1pm-3pm.

Before the actual festival starts, a writing workshop will also be taking place. The workshop will be led by Josh Berk, Jon Skovron, Amy Brecount White, Meg Medina, Jeri Smith-Ready, Stephanie Keuhnert, and Shannon Delany. The authors will be speaking on a variety of writing-related topics and also critiquing the work of each attendee, who will be asked to bring the first 3 pages of their work-in-progress. This writing workshop will take place from 10am to noon and will cost $45.

All of the money raised at the festival from the fundraisers, and a portion of the book sales, will be donated to libraries across the state.

If you can't attend the festival but would still like to support Pennsylvania libraries, you can support PAYA in various ways. We're currently accepting book and monetary donations, which can be sent via Paypal or money order. All money goes to libraries and the books are either donated to libraries or sold in the used book sale to raise more money for libraries. You can also help by spreading the word to your Pennsylvania friends!

Visit bringya2pa.com for more information on PAYA, the festival, and ways you can get involved!

Note: Rebecca & I are planning on being there for the festival/signings (hopefully the stars will align for us lol) - we hope you will stop by and support PAYA if you can!!

Meet the newest member of the Fallenarchangel family!

We're super excited to introduce you all to our new blog contributor, Megan, one of our first forum members and a huge HUSH, HUSH series fan! Please read a little about Megan and help us welcome her into the Fallenarchangel family.

Hello! First of all, I want to thank Jenn and Rebecca for giving me the chance to be a blog contributor!

To let you know a little bit about me, my name’s Megan, and I’m 24 years old. I live near Columbus, Ohio with my husband of two years, Matthew. I was introduced to Hush, Hush as a part of the Barnes & Noble First Look book club. After reading it in one 5-hour sitting, I was addicted and needed more!! lol! That is when I went to Becca’s website and saw something about a fansite that two sisters had created for Hush, Hush! The rest, as they say, is history! I joined the FallenArchangel forum in September 2009 and was one of the first 100 members, or “First to Fall.”

Since then, I have enjoyed getting to know Jenn and Rebecca through numerous Twitter conversations! I was even fortunate enough to get to meet them on my way through their neck of the woods in Pennsylvania in June!

Recently, I was given the chance to read an ARC (advanced reader copy) of The Hush, Hush sequel, Crescendo. I’ve got to say, I think Becca really outdid herself on this one! It was fabulous! I loved every bit of it. It picks up right where Hush, Hush leaves off, and it will definitely keep you guessing until the end! I don’t want to give anything away, but I will say that whether you love them or love to hate them, many of the characters from Hush, Hush make appearances in Crescendo, along with a new face or two! I can’t wait for all of you to be able to read it!

CRESCENDO Cookie of the Week

Make sure to stop by http://www.fallenarchangel.com/ every Monday through October 18 for a weekly CRESCENDO teaser!

This week's Cookie is brought to us by Becca Fitzpatrick!!

Q&A with Sarah Rees Brennan Part 2 - the answers to your questions!

*In case you missed the first part of our Q&A with Sarah Rees Brennan, author of THE DEMON'S LEXICON and THE DEMON'S COVENANT, you can check that out here.

Whew, you guys did an awesome job of leaving questions and comments for the Sarah! We'll pick 5 winners at random tomorrow (Thursday) but we couldn't wait to get Sarah's responses up tonight. She's a rockstar for taking the time to do this. Thank you, Sarah! And thank you to all of you who stopped by to comment. The giveaway is officially closed as of 10:00 pm EST 7/28/10. Winners will be announced 7/29/10. A reminder that only US residents are eligible.

Now that we have that out of the way, I'm handing the rest of the post over to Sarah...

Thanks for all these fabulous questions you guys, I had a blast guesting here! And I hope that you can all handle all this CRAZY ANSWER ACTION I am about to throw at you!

Jamie asks: How do you keep them (characters) vulnerable and still make them tough?
I think that's easy to do, as long as you love your characters, and think of them as real. (Not real in the talking to them out loud or buying them birthday presents way...) All people, no matter how tough they seem, have weak points: someone really physically strong may be easy to wound emotionally. Someone who's tough emotionally and physically usually still has a weak spot: someone they care about enough to be easily hurt when it comes to them. And likewise, there are characters who seem to be outwardly huge masses of vulnerability, and at their core, when you make them hit a certain point, endanger something valuable enough to them - they're steel.

Q&A with Sarah Rees Brennan, author of THE DEMON'S LEXICON

As you all know Jenn and I are huge fans of YA fantasy (running a fansite for the HUSH, HUSH series might give that away) So when we found out THE DEMON'S LEXICON and THE DEMON'S COVENANT were two of the titles S&S asked us to feature for July, we were ecstatic. LOVE these books. And as you will see from the Q&A below, the author, Sarah Rees Brennan, is just as amazing as her writing. *Fangirl warning* Sarah even gave us a cookie (teaser) from the third book. With Nick!

Swoon.

After you've read all of Sarah's fabulous answers please be sure to leave any comments/questions you have for her in regards to writing (writing process, querying agents, life after publishing etc.) or about the demon trilogy. Sarah will be back on Wednesday to answer the questions with the added bonus of a giveaway of 5 sets of the first 2 books, courtesy of Simon & Schuster! Unfortunately, this is only open to U.S. residents. But please feel free to leave questions/comments even if you aren't eligible to win.
A huge thank you to Sarah for taking the time to do this!

Now, on to the good stuff...

FA: Was writing always a passion of yours? At what age did you start writing?

SRB: Yes, always. Well, you know, pretty much always. At five, I was torn between writing and the ambition of many five year old girls - to be a ballerina! But I dance like a hippo on speed, so that dream died pretty quickly, and when I was five, I told my grandfather (who was this giant tattooed ex-soldier dockworker dude) that I had penned a GREAT WORK. He said 'Okay, honey.' I showed him a page full of writing and a picture of a house. He said, 'Amazing, honey.' When I was seven, I finished my first book, which was about pony-loving schoolgirls and ninjas who teamed up to fight crime. This experience taught me that you should always lie to your elderly relatives. Uh, I mean, so was born my great love for crime. Er, I mean, writing. (And crime.)

So I was pretty young when I started writing, but I know a bunch of writers who didn't write at all until their 20s, 30s, 40s. It's not like ballet in many ways - you can always start to write. (A favourite quote of mine: 'Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now.')
